Core Integrity: Relative to What
The core muscles are crucial in coordinating and controlling movement and distributing force between the upper and lower extremities. The question is-what movement or posture is the one that you or your client need? For example, is a plank exercise on the forearms or with straight arms the most appropriate option for you or your client? Do you need to have greater mobility in the hips, or more stability in the shoulder girdle/shoulder joint? Your personal training program can be enhanced by your choice of a core exercise that best targets the demand of the movement or exercise.
Among the topics covered:
- Core integrity relative to hip mobility
- Core integrity relative to hip stability
- Core integrity relative to shoulder mobility
- Core integrity relative to shoulder stability
- Program design implications

Exercise Modifications for Clients with DDI (Difficulty Doing It)
What is DDI? No, it is not a new orthopaedic condition. DDI simply means you or your client has difficulty doing a specific movement or exercise. Personal trainers are looking for modifications in order to work with senior clients. Age alone, however, is not inherently a basis for modification. Many clients have difficulty with certain aspects of exercise including range of motion, holding, or being able to grip a dumbbell or handle for example. This DVD shows you exercise modifications that you can use with any client who has difficulty with a specific component, based on ability, not just age. Among the topics covered:
- Core progressions that can be done sitting or against the wall for clients who have difficulty getting down onto the floor for traditional exercises
- Creative exercise options, such as manual resistance for clients who have discomfort in grabbing and/or holding weights or grips
- Exercise modifications for developing power and agility to help maintain dynamic joint stability and enhance bone integrity
- Isometric exercises for clients who have discomfort moving or holding certain ranges of motion
